Our results are based in part on field observations and in part on laboratory analysis executed at Laboratoire de Géologie du Quaternaire, Luminy in Marseille. Similar to other closed basins (see also Eugster and Kelts, 1983 Yuretich, 1979, 1982), a good understanding of sedimentation in the modern environment where the complex physico-chemical components can be observed and studied directly, is of great importance to the interpretation of the ancient lake's environmental dynamics. The basic goal of this type of studies is to establish a relationship between sedimentation dynamics and physico-chemical nature of the modern environment.
